Nepenthes carunculata var. "robusta" by N. X trusmadiensis is another Exotica Plants hybrid involving the perennial favorite N. X trusmadiensis (N. lowii X N. macrophylla). Some of their most exciting hybrids are crossed with that plant. This hybrid just became available for 2006 and is showing great promise. The peristome is highly ridged with nice pitcher coloring. N. carunculata var. "robusta" is a very dark purple plant so it will be very interesting to see how dark the pitchers will be. There seems to be a lot of variation with other seed grown N. X trusmadiensis hybrids from Exotica. So as more plants are grown out, there could be a lot of differences between plants. I am seeing some differences among several of my clones but they are still young yet. Recently some photos were posted in the forums of other plants and the color on the pitchers was mostly a dark red / purple. The plants may still be small and possibly when they mature, they may lose some of the purple coloration similar to the clone pictured above.
