Nepenthes izumiae X truncata is a hybrid between a lowlander and a highlander. The dark pitcher coloration comes from the N. izumiae. Hybrids involving N. truncata often attain great size so that makes for a popular hybrid. This hybrid wasn't on the list at Exotica Plants but I remember reading about it so I inquired as to its availability. Luckily I was able to get one at that time but since has become readily available from Exotica. This hybrid has been on the Exotica Plants' list for some time and may be in tissue culture as one of their "potted plant" varieties. Exotica doesn't release the actual hybrid parents in tissue culture but rumor has it that it could be N. "Black Dragon". I grow this hybrid in hanging pots in full sun without any problems. It is very vigorous and hardy. If this hybrid is the same as the "Black Dragon" clones, then attaining it is very easy.
