Nepenthes izumiae X truncata is a hybrid between a highlander and a lowlander. The dark pitcher coloration comes from the N. izumiae. Hybrids involving N. truncata often attain great size so that makes for a popular hybrid. This hybrid has been on the list at Exotica Plants for some time now and may be in tissue culture as one of their "potted plant" varieties. Exotica doesn't release the actual hybrid parents in tissue culture but rumor has it that it could be N. "Black Dragon". I grow this hybrid in hanging pots in full sun without any problems. The pitchers appear more slender than other Nepenthes and the size of the pitchers in relation to the plant is large. It is an easy growing hybrid and makes a nice starter Nepenthes. Because this hybrid is in tissue culture, it is one of Exotica's hybrids that has a wide availability.
