Nepenthes izumiae X veitchii is an Exotica Plants hybrid between a two highlanders. The pitchers are dark colored from the N. izumiae and start off with some barring in the peristome. As the pitcher matures, the barrer fades and the overall pitcher turns solid dark. There may be some variation as to the solid dark coloration among the seed grown plants. Some of my smaller ones don't exhibit the early striping in the peristome that this particular specimen. However, that may change as the plant matures. Both parents are finicky for me to grow as highlanders and I haven't had great success doing so for extended periods of time outdoors. N. veitchii highland striped is more of an intermediate and doesn't like temps for long periods in the upper 30's to low 40's and N. izumiae (BE clone) has proven difficult to get acclimated and started as well. This hybrid is different and does well in lower outdoor temperatures than both of the parents. I think large plants will be quite nice and in demand when they become available.
